Cubans Celebrate Castro’s Death In Miami
uban-Americans took to
the streets of Miami and social media outlets on Saturday to celebrate the
death of longtime dictator Fidel Castro. His passing was announced around
midnight by his brother and Cuban Preisdent Raul Castro on state television.
Miami is home to the
largest concentration of Cuban-Americans, and according to the Miami Herald, large crowds
poured into the neighborhoods of Little Havana, Hialeah, and Kendall to “honk
horns, bang pans, and set off more than a few fireworks.” Many Miami residents
were themselves exiled by Castro’s regime, so the news of his passing spread
quickly through the city’s many Cuban communities. “It’s sad that one
finds joy in the death of a person — but that person should never have been
born,” said Pablo Arencibia, 67, a teacher who left Cuba 20 years ago, as quoted
